Figure 1. Breakfast: a bowl of Kashi GoLean Original mixed with Cascadian Farm Organic French Vanilla Almond granola, 1/2 sliced banana, and almond milk. Note the relative small-ness of this bowl that I couldn't even manage to finish.
Figure 2. Lunch: a toasted whole wheat English muffin, one smeared with strawberry jam and one with grape jelly, both topped with chia seeds, and 1/2 sliced banana. All served on top of my favorite childhood plate, a small glimmer of happiness during a gloomy, sick day.
Figure 4. Dinner: two pieces of whole wheat toast topped with a smashed banana spiked with cinnamon and chopped dates.
Figure 5. Dessert: a pineapple frozen whole fruit bar.
And that concludes another What I Ate Wednesday (featuring what I ate Tuesday, March 13).
*Please note that this is not my usual diet and today's intake is lacking in calories, fat, protein, and vitamins and minerals. Trust me, the moment my stomach gets back to normal I'll be diving back into my normal eating routine.
Boo I am sorry you are feeling sick! Not fun :( but I also crave carbs and foods like this when I am sick, so i understand!
ReplyDeleteYour eats still look great though... i love frozen fruit bars like that!
yeah this is all i could stomach really. i would die for a salad today though, but we'll see. toast gets old after so many goes. :)
DeleteFeel better soon! When you do you'll start getting those calories and greens in.
ReplyDeletethanks, lyn! feeling a bit better today so i'm hoping for greens soon!
DeleteOooh I so know what you mean, this was my WIAW last week haha... carbs carbs and more carbs!!
ReplyDeleteThe banana smooshed up looks really yummy, though!
yeah it was actually pretty tasty! really sweet and a serving of fruit!
DeleteEeeesh feel better! I would have turned to childhood plates too! When I'm sick, I make toast with the crusts cut off. My parents did it for me when I was a kid...brings me total comfort :)
ReplyDeleteaw the crusts are the best part! haha, although when i was a kid i suppose i didn't like them either. i love those small comforts. :)
DeleteOh, feel better soon.
ReplyDeletethanks macnic!
DeleteYummmm pineapple bar! Looks good :)
ReplyDeleteyeah that pineapple bar is super great. i never buy these types of frozen treats (because i always want chocolate). but this was exactly what my taste buds and tummy wanted. i will buy more for sure!
DeleteJust because WIAW has gone green, didn't mean you had to get green! I hope you feel better. I was struck with the fact that your food is either square or round. More shapes than I usually see.
ReplyDeletehaha i know i hate being green! you are right about the round/square thing. i didn't even notice that!
DeleteHope you feel better! There seem to be several "What I Ate When I Was Sick"s today :-(
ReplyDeletethanks, jennie! maybe it is something ugly in this beautiful spring air!
DeleteHope you feel better soon! I always find that tea with slices of ginger helps calm my stomach down after a bug :)
ReplyDeletegood advice. luckily my stomach is better today. hope to be back to normal soon!
DeleteAww, sorry you're under the weather! And sick somehow always means massive carb-fest...ya gotta get your strength back somehow, eh? ;)
ReplyDeleteyeah, i'm not sure why - but that always happens. i'm sure i'll make up for it with massive amounts of veggies soon enough.
DeleteHello from WIAW...hope you feel better!
ReplyDeletethanks ladies!
DeleteSorry you aren't feeling well! I think we all go through the "anti-veggie because my stomach can't handle it" days...I have to say I'd eat Oatmeal Squares any day of the week, though.
ReplyDeletePS- Have you seen that Gilmore Girls episode where Lorelai's mom makes her the mashed banana on toast when she's sick and they both think it's gross? The whole time all I could think was, "Sounds DELICIOUS to me!"
um, i've seen every single episode of the Gilmore Girls (and you just reminded me how much i love that show). i can't actually recall that episode but it sounds like classic Lorelai to me. love it. :)
DeleteMmmmm I love smashed bananas on toast! I learned that one from my dad :) Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeletei didn't know people actually really ate that! i thought i made it up last time i was sick. two easily stomached items smushed together. it is pretty good though (although i'm sick of it now...)
DeleteEek, feel better Sara! I love smashing banana into a sandwich...I usually microwave it first so it gets faux-caramelized. And then add peanut butter, because peanut butter makes everything better.
ReplyDeleteoh i would have added peanut butter if my tummy could handle it. soon!
DeleteEnglish muffin with sliced banana is my go-to sick-food too. Feel better!!
ReplyDeleteenglish muffins are the bomb. i think my favorite way to eat them is just plain with butter. soooo perfect.
DeleteSometimes carbs are the best medicine!
ReplyDeleteI'd like you to know that, because of your posts, my love for Kashi GoLean and having cereal for breakfast has been rekindled. I was on an oats kick for SO long, but I'm back to cereal now. And I couldn't be happier about it! (:
Emily, darling. your comment just made my day. cereal is so fantastic it is a wonder more people don't love it. and kashi golean is the best. glad to have inspired you. i hope you are well i miss your blog posts!
DeleteSo sorry to hear that you've been ill this week :( I really hope you're on the mend now!
ReplyDeleteDespite the inbalance in your day's eats, what you did manage to eat looks really yummy AND healthy! When you're sick, you've just got to eat whatever you can stomach. I don't imagine I'd be able to face a plate of greens or salad on a sick day. Luckily those days are rare for us.
yeah it wasn't too bad despite my missing the veggies! i'm feeling better now!
DeleteI love carbs! haha. I hope you're feelin' better! My favorite thing to eat when I'm sick is saltines. Add butter and it's sooo good and addicting.
ReplyDeleteYum! Carbs are the best! And english muffins, especially with soybutter and honey. :) Hope you're feeling better!
