weekend review: to rate or not to rate

I make all these recipes I find online via my Pinterest obsession, scouring healthy living/whole food blogs, or through my Cooking Light subscription. I make them, eat them, photograph them, and blog about them. If they are outstanding I make note of it. But, I had this revelation last night that it may be useful for my readers to rate each recipe to help decide whether or not they want to recreate something in their own kitchen.

Figure 1. Friday night's dinner: roast chicken with balsamic bell peppers (6/10), baked brown rice pilaf, seasoned with smoked paprika and garlic powder (4/10: I think I needed to season it more...), and roasted asparagus with garlic.


Figure 2. Saturday morning baking: Amanda's pumpkin chocolate chip pumpkin bread turned into non-chocolate pumpkin muffins (9/10).

Figure 3. In preparation: skinny mushroom stroganoff (5/10).

Figure 4. Saturday night's dinner: skinny mushroom stroganoff and a spinach salad with roasted red pepper, avocado, cashews, and a homemade honey lemon thyme vinaigrette.

  1. I love the scaling on the rating. It's always a great way to communicate a lot with ease. I don't know how blogspot works but I know wordpress allows you to put a poll in your posts. Perhaps that would be the best way for readers to rate?

  2. wow that spiced pork tenderloin looks amazing, I give you credit for actually trying things on pinterest. I just pin them and say one day I will make them. So lame of me...

  6. I love the idea to rate the recipes you try - that's really helpful!

    That's too bad the mushroom stroganoff wasn't good though because I have that one pinned! I guess it's just one of those meals that isn't meant to be made "skinny". :P

  8. I get totally inspired by your blog, & i love it. You motivate me to actually try new recipes- without blogs like this, I'm a tad lazy in that department:p.

    And yes , I really like the rating system. It gives me a good idea of how much a recipe is worth making.

  11. Love love the rating idea! Also, I would really like it if you elaborated more on why you gave the particular rating ~ I love the fact that you always try new recipes and review them, it definitely gives me an idea of the recipes I should recreate :)

  12. Omg, I want that last plate in my face NOW!! I LOVE pork with fruit and actually just bought some boneless pork chops the other day! I have plans to whip up something with them and the honeycrisp apples that I (finally) found over the weekend!

    I love the scaling idea! It's nice to know what people REALLY think of a recipe before you go out and purchase all the ingredients to make it yourself...especially if it just ends up being "meh". And I made Amanda's pumpkin bread a few weeks ago...definitely rated high in my book!
