my less serious day: fiber edition

I find it helpful check in with my diet every now and then. Today, I tracked my fiber intake. Grams of fiber for each food is indicated in parentheses below. Today, I consumed 59 grams of fiber. The recommended amount of fiber for women 19-50 years of age is 25 grams (References: 1, 2, 3).

It's a wonder I don't have fiber coming out of my (ahem) ears....

Wearing.

Skirt: J Crew; tee: Old Navy; Cardigan: LOFT; necklace: gifted via mom; pumps: Urban Outfitters.

Doing.

This morning was my day off of running and I hit the stationary bike for a 35-minute ramp interval ride followed by a 15-minute walk with the pup. I also took L on a 10-minute walk on my lunch break. The day concluded with a 60-minute Body Pump class.

Eating.

Pre-workout I had 1/2 banana (1g), 1/2 mug of black coffee, and 1 pint of water. For breakfast I had a bowl of Kashi GoLean Original (13g) mixed with Post Great Grains Raisins, Dates, & Pecans (2g) cereals, 1/2 sliced banana (1g), and almond milk (2g). Breakfast fiber total: 19g.

Lunch was a spinach (3g) and romaine lettuce (2g) salad topped with grape tomatoes, leftover zucchini and squash (1g), hummus (1g), peanuts (2g), and dried cranberries (1g), and balsamic vinegar. Lunch fiber total: 10g.

My afternoon snack was a Pink Lady apple (4g) and almonds (2g). Snack fiber total: 6g.

Dinner was a sweet potato (4g) and kale (16g) sauteed in olive oil, shallots, and Dijon mustard topped with two fried eggs. Dinner fiber total: 20g.

Dessert was a 100-calorie kettle corn popcorn pack (4g). Dessert fiber total: 4g.

  1. First of all, I LOVE that outfit, and am already trying to think of ways to create on like it.
Second of all, I used to consume absurd amounts of fiber; less now, but still more than the RDA. I think your body gets used to high amounts if you work your way up there gradually.

    1. thanks, emma! yes, i suppose your body does get used to it although i have been watching my veggie intake a bit lately so i don't get too carried away ;)

  2. Oooh I love that necklace! It's so unique!

I tracked my fiber last semester after we discussed it in nutrition class and my result was similar! It made me realize why I require 4x as much water as anyone else. If you eat more fiber, you must drink more water.

    1. yes, i realize now that water is key. i am ALWAYS drinking water and since i have been aware that my fiber is so much higher than 'normal' i've upped my water intake even more.

  7. I would think the salad {leaves} would have had more fiber! Seriously though, I can't understand when people say they don't get enough fiber. Just eat some fruits and veggies! Heck the bread I have has 5g in it!

I absolutely adore the outfit you wore, by the way.

    1. yeah, i though the leaves would have more too. this is 4 cups of spinach and 2 cups of romaine - so it's a lot. but who cares i don't need any more!

      thanks!

  8. 59grams?? Wowza you're a fiber eating health machine! You go girl! Your outfit is gorgeous - love the pops of colour. I may have asked you this before but how tall are you? You always look super tall in your outfits yet you wear heels too, which is a girl after my own heart. I am surrounded by tiny 5'2" friends but I'm 5'8" and love to rock a pair of heels now and again lol!

    1. thanks kara! well this is 6 cups of kale - so it has a lot, but that is partly why. it just cooks down a lot...and i eat a million veggies. :)

  12. Love this idea of tracking different nutrients, etc. from time to time! Whenever I read/hear about recommendations of fiber, sugar, fat, etc. I always think I should see how my diet compares, but it seems to tedious to count those things. But I could definitely do it for a day or two!

    1. yeah it is definitely tedious to do it too often. but, like i said - i really like checking in with myself here and there and tracking your diet for one or two days is not bad and certainly enlightening! i use sparkpeople, which is pretty easy to use.

  18. I'm in love with your outfit! I have that skirt in black and I wear it constantly.
I should definitely keep track of my fiber and protein intake one of these days. I'm sure I exceed the requirements for fiber but it would be interesting to see.

I love that you break up your workouts throughout the day. I've been trying to do that recently. It's nice to keep my body moving throughout the day!
